My review title is so alarming 😂. But everyone (or anyone who frequents hot yoga) needs to know that it’s really such a good mat. It’s so grippy. I’ve tried all the yoga towels and all the suede/microfiber mats, and this is the only mat I’ll buy now. I’m leaving for an international yoga retreat in a few weeks, and I’m trying to figure out how I can strap it to my carry on lol
When I purchased my first unity mat in 2019, I didn’t believe it could get any better; however, after practicing on the newer, thicker unity mat, I’ve been pleasantly convinced otherwise! My practice feels stronger and the extra cushion helps with wrist issues I’ve experienced during practice with having a desk job. The design is gorgeous and reminds me that without mud, there is no lotus. I’d 100% recommend buying the detox cleaner with your unity mat. It will extend its life + grip and makes for easy cleaning after a particularly sweaty practice. I am over the moon with my new mat!
Thanks for the amazing review, Asha! This truly warms our hearts to hear :)
I was really worried that I would get a super grippy mat and somehow get stuck or not be able to glide. This mat feels like I’m using a “normal” mat but I don’t slip around. I love the design and how easy it is to roll up. It is a tad heavier than most mats, but not so much more to where I notice it. Once I put the straps on and carry it, I can hardly tell. If you’re on the fence, hopefully my review will gently nudge you in the direction you’re meant to go!
I really like my new mat to support my growing yoga practice. It is great to alternate between this one and my "original" mat, depending on how vigorously I plan to work, and my overall mood 🤗. I would advise potential buyers that the unity mat is much darker than it appears on the website so if you are really wanting the design to pop, you might prefer one of the other mat materials.
Thanks for the awesome feedback, Chanda! That really is the best set up :)
This is a very well-made and absolutely gorgeous mat (Pond of Harmony design). It grips very well. I think this is an excellent mat overall and would recommend it to yoga practitioners looking for something solid with excellent grip that provides support and doesn't have much give.
However, as it turns out, this is not what I am looking for in a mat. The Unity mat is harder than I expected. When I ordered the samples, the surface of the Unity sample I got felt softer under hand; not as smooth and pliable as the surface of the Aura sample, but also not as hard as the full-size mat felt when it arrived. On my first use, the Unity mat was both hard and rough. It is entirely possible that my expectations were too high, but I felt let down the first time I used it, and I didn't use it again for two weeks. I tried it a second time and although it was still hard, the roughness was reduced. Perhaps after some breaking in it will feel more comfortable.
This mat also has a strong smell. It's not a bad smell, but it is distinct. Based on other reviewers' accounts, the smell will probably dissipate over time, but my mat is still going strong.
But, as I said in the beginning, this is a sturdy, beautiful, grippy mat, and it deserves 5 stars -- it's just not MY perfect match. I bought the Aura mat for my mother-in-law and she loves it, so I'm going to order an Aura for myself and probably return the Unity mat. Yoloha's customer-friendly policies, flexibility, earth friendliness, and excellent customer service make them a company I want to support, and also make me feel ok that I don't like the Unity mat like I thought I would.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience and positive feedback, Joanna! The Unity is our only mat that has a blend of cork and recycled rubber, so it does have a more rugged texture than our other mats. It sounds like you may prefer one of our all cork mats like the Aura as you mentioned. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to initiate your exchange. Thanks again!
