Our Commitment to The Earth

Our Commitment to The Earth

Posted by Nicole Lennox on

In honor of Earth Day, we want to shed some awareness on our commitment to the Earth through out new and ongoing efforts of sustainability.
Meet Yoloha founder, Chris Willey.

“As an outdoor enthusiast, father and resident of our beautiful planet, I want to ensure that we leave our Earth healthy for all future generations to enjoy.”

Chris started Yoloha in 2013 in pursuit of a sustainable yoga practice. Having come from an earth-conscious, outdoorsy family, Chris recognized the importance of protecting our Earth and this translated over into his role as a business owner.

Offset Carbon Emissions

“As our business grows and we ship more products all over the world, we are excited to join carbonfund.org to help offset our shipping emissions by supporting reforestation/forest preservation carbon offset projects.”

Yoloha is proud to have recently joined Carbon Fund as a partner – Learn more.

Eco Friendly Harvestation Process

No trees are harmed in the making of our mats.

In fact, not a single tree is cut down to harvest cork at all. Instead, the bark is stripped by hand every 9 years. Harvested cork oak trees can live up to 300 years. No bark is wasted during the cork production process, and the residue is granulated to make other cork products and even cork dust is used for fuel. The process is performed completely by hand and provides over 100,000 fair wage jobs plus a harvested cork oak tree absorbs up to five times more [carbon dioxide] than one that isn’t harvested. Yoga Wheels

To reduce transportation emissions and ensure the highest quality we manufacture many of our products either in our warehouse or locally, including our wonderful yoga wheels

Our cork yoga wheels are all handmade at our warehouse in Charleston, SC. The core is constructed from sustainably-sourced maple and poplar wood. Rounded interior edges making gripping comfortable. An outer layer of latex-free foam topped with cork provides cushion with the antimicrobial and non-slip benefits of cork.

Packaging

“To help reduce waste we ship using only 100% recycled or recyclable cardboard and kraft paper. We never use single use plastic. When products need to be shipped to us from our suppliers we worked with them to develop a packing method that uses the least amount of materials which is mostly cardboard and a small amount of plastic.”

Go Green – Its a lifestyle

Our Yoloha family is dedicated to a sustainable lifestyle in and outside of the workplace.

“Going green is not as hard as you might think. I always ask myself a few questions before buying anything.

  • “Is the packaging on this recyclable?”
  • “Can I buy this item without plastic packaging?”
  • “Is this a single use item?” (If so what’s an alternative version I could buy)

And probably the most important question to ask yourself…

“Do I really need this at all?”

Refuse -> Reduce -> Reuse -> Recycle

Namaste,

Chris Willey + The Yoloha Family
