Meet Yoloha Ambassador, Kharma Grimes.

Kharma is a Hatha yoga teacher based in Hawaii who focuses on healing others through movement and meditation. She is passionate about witnessing people find peace from within. She uses tender phrases and incorporates visualizations of our Earth’s elements into her classes to connect her students to the present moment. She has been a dancer since the age of 7 years old and she utilizes her deep knowledge of human anatomy for her yoga classes. After earning a BFA in dance from Sam Houston State University, she became a registered Hatha yoga instructor through Yoga Blue Fitness and she is eager to continue spreading her light and guiding others in their practice.

We sat down with Kharma and connected about movement, life and more. Here’s what she had to say:

What experience brought you to yoga?

Towards the end of college, 3 good friends brought me to my first yoga class at Black Swan Yoga in Houston, TX. I was open to experiencing new things so this excited me. Little did I know this would be the beginning of a new chapter for me.

How did you discover Yoloha and what do you love about it?

I discovered Yoloha through @derekaanne on Instagram. Her posts are very inspiring to me and I decided I needed to purchase a mat! I got the Original Air Cork Yoga Mat and it is the best yoga mat I have ever owned and certainly a staple in my practice.

What style(s) of yoga do you teach? Practice?

I teach Hatha and Yin yoga. Other than those, I also incorporate Ashtanga yoga in my personal practice.

What yoga certifications do you have?

I have a 200hr Hatha Certification (and a BFA in dance which helps a lot in my practice).

Do you have any events or workshops coming up?

Every Sunday I host free online yoga classes through zoom at 10am EST. Donations are welcomed but not required. I hold space for all levels of yogis and we heal our bodies together through movement and meditation.

Talk about one connection you make between your asana practice and your life off of your mat.

During my asana practice, especially when trying new/difficult poses, it often takes determination over a period of time and I don’t achieve it right away. I like to translate this into my life because any new skill we are trying to acquire will take time and my asana practice teaches me to have patience in my endeavors.

Other than yoga, what is your favorite way to take care of yourself?

My favorite way to take care of myself is through honoring my resonance. Something that brought me anxiety in my early years was the feeling that I’m living life wrong or that I should be doing things that I don’t necessarily feel called to do. However recently, I’ve discovered the great joy that comes with listening to my intuition and trusting that my desires are what’s best for me.

Keep up with Kharma for more!
