Meet Ashlee Nobel, the Artist behind our limited edition Inhale Exhale design.
When and where did your artistic journey begin and where are you now?
I’ve loved to draw since I was young but I was also kind of a computer nerd so in high school I made up my mind to be a graphic designer as a way to marry the two. I started taking college level classes at 15 at the local university.
About 8 years ago I left my Creative Director position at a magazine and set out on my own to create Lee Lee Arts + Design doing freelance design and illustration.
How would you describe your artistic style?
Pen and ink line art is my favorite, typically in black and white, but I’m exploring color more. I love creating details and depth with just line work and bold shapes. Probably influenced by my years as a graphic designer.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
Nature and the concept of mindfulness. Specifically, the miniature world of insects, wildflowers/plants, fungi, and small animals. My garden is a big source of inspiration. I love to watch all of the creatures that live there. I do not use pesticides and instead invite biodiversity to come live there.
Who do you look up to in your industry?
There are so many greats out there! I’m constantly finding new inspiration and I’m most recently fangirling over Gemma O'Brien, a lettering and mural artist from Australia.
What training/certifications do you have?
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Graphic Design and I have continued to take classes at the local art museum and online in various art mediums including ceramics, relief printmaking, calligraphy and more. You should always keep learning!
How did you hear about Yoloha Yoga and why do you identify with us?
I was on the hunt for an alternative to my rubber yoga mat because I was constantly slipping and sliding during more energetic yoga practices. I stumbled upon Yoloha Yoga during a google search and I loved the whole vibe of the company. Plus you put beautiful artwork on your mats and I strive to surround myself with art in all parts of my life.
What was your inspiration behind the Inhale Exhale design?
I wanted to create a visual reminder of the breathwork you do during your yoga practice. The star at the top represents the inhale and your peak, which can feel sharp, while the water drop at the bottom represents your exhale and how your body relaxes, sometimes almost melting, into your pose.
What role does yoga play in your life?
Yoga is my moving meditation that grounds me back into my body. It relieves the stress and anxiety that can get my head swimming and make it hard to focus. I also sit A LOT working on my computer all day and yoga moves my body in all the right ways to relieve the tension. It’s an absolute must in my life!
What is a mantra that you live by?
My current mantra is “Do Big Things.” I can get scared off of doing a project or having a goal because it seems too big to accomplish. But I don’t want to live a life where I only achieve small things. I can do big things!
Keep up with Ashlee @leelee_arts
